Survey says some are suspicious about 9-11

As the Barrett story continues to make national news, the Journal-Sentinal ran a story that reports a survey that more than 1/3 of those polled had suspicions about the U.S. government's role in the Sept. 11 attacks.

This story was matched by an a-p story (which also ran in the Northwestern) describing a few members of the group of which Barrett is a member.

that survey has gotten at of play, even Rush Limbaugh talked about it in his own irrational way.

The survey results say much about public distrust of Bush and the US govt. It would be great if academics, journalists and others engaged in a meaningful debate about why people believe in conspiracy theories. Unfortunately, that is not what is going on in the debate about Barrett, nor by Barrett himself.

For him this survey is vindication of his beliefs. But that is like saying we should question Copernicus because one out of four Americans believes the sun goes around the earth ( and sadly there was a survey last year that showed that some 25% of Americans really believe that the earth is the center of the universe)

Kevin will be joining the UW Oshkosh Campus some time late in October to discuss Academic Freedom. Prior to the event will be a free showing of Loose Change 2. I'll let you know more when more is figured out.
